Approval to hire Frank Martin as the permanent Public Works Director

ISSUE:
Following the unexpected retirement of Public Works Director Scott Stokes back in July 2018, a search was conducted to fill the position. Qualified candidates went through three rounds of interviews. The first round consisted of the City Administrator and Department Heads. The second round consisted of Council Member Corkey Welch, the City Administrator, Deputy County Manager of Cobb County, and Department Heads. The third round was an interview with Mayor A. Max Bacon. Upon completion of all interviews, the position was offered to Mr. Frank Martin who is currently serving as the City's Interim Public Works Director.
BACKGROUND:
Frank Martin has been working for the City of Smyrna for 32 years. He has served in the following positions: Crew Worker in Water/Sewer Division, Equipment Operator in Water/Sewer Division, and as a Streets Supervisor. In September of 2000, he was promoted to the position of Assistant Public Works Director.
RECOMMENDATION/REQUESTED ACTION:
Approval to hire Frank Martin as the permanent Public Works Director.
