Body

ISSUE AND BACKGROUND

Monterrey of Smyrna is requesting a mural on the northern wall of the restaurant and the dumpster enclosure for the restaurant. The mural for the wall is 8’ by 60’ (480 sq. ft.) There will be no commercial message within either mural. The City of Smyrna Sign Ordinance - Chapter 82, does not provide regulations for murals without a commercial message. Therefore, the restaurant is requesting authorization from Mayor and Council to formally approve the murals.

The proposed dumpster enclosure will not be visible from S Cobb Drive or any other public right-of-way. The proposed wall mural will be positioned on the back half of the northern side of the restaurant adjacent to Dickson Plaza. The proposed wall mural may be partially visible traveling south on S Cobb Drive. However, Community Development does not believe the location of this mural will create a distraction for vehicular traffic.

RECOMMENDATION / REQUESTED ACTIONCommunity Development has reviewed the request and recommends approval with the following condition:

1.                     Approval is based on substantial compliance with the mural images submitted by All City Murals on September 2, 2021.
