ISSUE: This is a SPLOST funded purchase. Purchase playground equipment, mulch and installation services from Gametime, c/o Dominica Recreation Products
BACKGROUND: Six commercial grade playground providers were selected to receive bids for playground design, and sells, for this future park site. Gametime Inc., c/o Dominica Recreation Products, was the sole bidder. The COS has a long history utilizing Gametime equipment with success. Play elements for 2 to 5 year old and 5 - 12 year old users are included in this design, as are swings, shade umbrella, benches and a picnic table.
The site for this playground on Highland Drive is in the flood plain. The structure on the property, since removed, was purchased by the City using FEMA mitigation funds. The deed restrictions set forth by FEMA would not permit a replacement structure. A playground however, is a permissible addition to the property.
Councilwoman Blustein polled residents at Ward Meeting regarding their interest in a playground installation at this site. Additionally, signage was posted on the property for five weeks welcoming additional comment about the City's plans to make this a park and with the intention of adding a playground and fencing. Ms. Blustein learned that a park with playground would be an amenity appreciated by the majority of the community that commented
RECOMMENDATION/REQUESTED ACTION: The Purchasing Manager select and award Gametime Inc., c/o Dominica Recreation as the responsible bidder for playground equipment and related services. Recommendation by the Purchasing Manager is attached. Recommend approval of RFP 15-008 and purchase of playground equipment from Gametime.
