Approval to allow the Smyrna Optimist Club and Smyrna Public Safety Foundation to hold a 5K road race September 5, 2016 from 6:30 AM - 10:00 AM to benefit community projects of the Smyrna Optimist and Smyrna Public Safety Foundation

ISSUE: September 5, 2016, 5K Run beginning and ending at City hall (Banks and King Street), going north to traffic circle, turn right at Village Green Circle, turning right on Atlanta Road, continuing on Atlanta Road to turnaround point at Campbell MIddle School, return on Atlanta Road to Village Green Circle; around traffic circle to the right to King Street finishing in front of City Hall . The entire length of the course will be coned and monitored. Assembling location will be at Smyrna City Hall area at 6:30 AM, the event beginning time will be at 8:00 AM and the ending will be approximately 10:00 AM.
At the turnaround racers will return to the start along the same course. The race will occupy both south bound lanes of Atlanta Road. This will allow outbound runners to use one lane while inbound runners will use the opposite lane and avoid any potential collision and car/traffic. There will be pre and post race activities that will occupy the area in front of Smyrna City Hall during the event. Additional bathroom facilities and trash receptacles will be located on site and removed immediately following the race event.
BACKGROUND: This is the second annual Smyrna Optimist Club and Smyrna Public Safety Foundation 5K.
