Title
Approval to purchase 1 (one) equipped Ford Explorer patrol vehicle from the Police Department's FY16 operating budget at a total cost of $35,853.61
Body
ISSUE: As the Police Department comes closer to realizing a full staff of certified Police Officers, it has become necessary to make additions to the uniform vehicle fleet in order to remain at a level of vehicles for officers to drive. Currently the Police operating budget has the necessary funds remaining to purchase a fully equipped Ford Explorer patrol unit.
BACKGROUND: Currently, the Police patrol fleet contains the necessary number of marked vehicles to leave 3 pool vehicles at full staff. The Police Department did not replace any vehicles in 2010 or 2012. Additionally, the Police Department brought on 3 Park Ranger positions as transfers from the Parks and Recreation Department but only brought over 2 marked vehicles As the fleet ages, we are noticing increased costs and out of service times associated with maintenance. As certified officer positions are filled and we come closer to full staffing, the need for additional vehicles is realized. There remains sufficient funds in the Police Department's FY16 operating budget to fully fund this request. The Ford Explorer is to be purchased from Wade Ford and all necessary equipment from Insight Public Sector, Grafix, and Diversified Electronics. The vehicle and all equipment will be purchased off of state/county contracts or through cooperative contract pricing.
RECOMMENDATION/REQUESTED ACTION: The Chief of Police and staff recommend the purchase.
