ISSUE:  The Smyrna Police Department is in the process of the final application for the preapproval of Federal funds of $14,036.00 for the purchase of Criminal investigation software and Employee workout equipment for the cities wellness program.

 

A requirement of the grant is that it is open to public comment and approved by the governing body.

 

 

BACKGROUND:  The Smyrna Police Department was awarded a $17,847 grant from the US Department of Justice to start a Bike Patrol Unit and to purchase a surveying system for the department's STEP Unit which is responsible for investigating vehicle homicides and serious injury collisions.

 

A requirement of the grant is that it is open to public comment and approved by the governing body.

 

 

RECOMMENDATION/REQUESTED ACTION:  Mayor to approve the FY15 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistant Grant (JAG) award of $14,036.00
