ISSUE: A total of 7 (seven) Uniform Patrol Vehicles and 1 (one) admin. vehicle have been or will be taken out of service in FY19. The replacement vehicles were included in the FY19 Vehicle Replacement Fund.
BACKGROUND: The Police Department was authorized the $347,000.00 in the FY19 Vehicle Replacement Fund for the replacement of 7 (seven) Uniform Patrol vehicles and 2 (two) admin. vehicles. In an effort to save cost, the Police Department is forgoing the allotted purchase of a new Ford Explorer and refurbishing 1 (one) vehicle (Ford Crown Victoria Police Vehicle) providing a substantial savings to the city. The vehicles that will be taken out of service are a result of damage sustained in accidents, costly mechanical issues and/or mileage, upon the guidance from Fleet Services. The vehicles and equipment will be purchased using State/County contracts, through cooperative contract pricing, and the graphics from a single source provider who solely owns the graphics artwork. All vehicles will be purchased from or refurbished by Wade Ford and all necessary equipment from Insight Public Sector, Grafix, and Diversified Electronics.
RECOMMENDATION/REQUESTED ACTION: The Chief of Police, Staff, and Purchasing Department recommends approval of the purchase.
