Smyrna's Vision Plan Presentation

ISSUE: Kathy Young from Market Street Services will present a report on Smyrna's Vision Plan. Members of the Vision Steering Committee will also be recognized.
BACKGROUND: As part of our ongoing efforts to serve the Smyrna community, a vision planning process was initiated in early 2014. Market Street Services Inc., a nationally-respected community and economic development consulting firm, was selected to facilitate the vision planning process. Working closely with City leaders, the business community, and Smyrna citizens, Market Street Services facilitated an in-depth process that has culminated with a clear ten-year Vision Plan for Smyrna with guidelines to direct the City and its partners in implementation activities.
Smyrna's Vision occurred in three phases, with each phase guided by an engaged and diverse Steering Committee of leaders from across the community that has been critical to the development of the Vision Plan and the success of the overall project: Phase 1, Community Assessment; Phase 2, Smyrna's Vision for the Community; and Phase 3, Implementation Guidelines. The inclusion of community stakeholders in Smyrna's Vision for the Community was and is critical to the plan's implementation and long-term sustainability. Community involvement included public feedback and opinions gathered through focus groups, stakeholder interviews, an online community survey, and social media.
The Steering Committee met for the final time on October 23rd and will be reconvening as work groups and an implementation executive committee in the coming months.
