Ceremony and Presentation for Smyrna Citizens Academy Graduating Class.
BACKGROUND:
The City of Smyrna held its first Smyrna Citizens Academy in the Spring of 2018. The Smyrna Citizens Academy provides residents an opportunity to become civically engaged by building positive relationships with city government officials while furthering their education on the city’s daily processes. Through the academy, citizens got a behind-the-scenes look at city operations through an 8-week course on city departments including City Council and Administration, Parks and Recreation, Public Works, and more.
This cohort is Smyrna’s first ever graduating class of the Smyrna Citizens Academy. Participants heard from department heads on their department’s roles and learned about the city through interactive and hands-on activities. With a better understanding of City of Smyrna operations, participants can become greater advocates for the community in which they live, work, and play.
