ISSUE AND BACKGROUND

Community Development is proposing a code amendment to Section 712.16 of the City's Zoning Ordinance to allow for the use of temporary opaque screening along arterial roadways for drive-in theaters. A drive-in theater is a permitted use under the General Commercial zoning district provided the theater screen not visible to an expressway or major thoroughfare. Community Development is proposing a code amendment to Section 712.16 to allow drive-in theaters to use temporary opaque screening along arterial roads provided the theater screen is locate more than 300' from an arterial road. The temporary opaque screening will reduce the visibility of the theater screen from the roadway and will be required to be removed after every showing.

 

RECOMMENDATION / REQUESTED ACTION:  Community Development recommends the approval of the proposed code amendment the Zoning Ordinance.
