ISSUE: Motorola is currently offereing a discount of 35% off of state contract pricing if radios are purchased prior to December 31, 2015. Motorola is further offering an additional 2.5% discount (total discount 37.5%) if radios are ordered and a purchase order is received prior to September 21, 2015. By purchasing 800 MHz TDMA radios on or prior to September 21, 2015, the City can realize an additional savings of $45,742.58.
BACKGROUND: The City of Smyrna must purchase TDMA 800 MHz radios in order to remain in compliance with Cobb County's 800 MHz radio system. The City has entered into an inter-governmental agreement with Cobb County to purchase the 800 MHz radios as part of a lease agreement whereas the City purchases radios and is reimbursed by Cobb County. The City had planned to purchase radios prior to December 31, 2015 in order to realize a discount not available after that date. Motorola has offered an additional 2.5% discount and negotiations with Motorola resulted in them agreeing to payment terms of net 45 days or payment due on November 15, 2015. The estimated delivery date of the radios is October 1, 2015.
RECOMMENDATION/REQUESTED ACTION: The Chief of Police, Fire Chief, Staff, Finance, and Purchasing recommend the purchase.
