Authorization to utilize cooperative contract for Fire/Rescue Vehicles under Bid 07-53 of the St. Johns County, Florida contract to purchase one (1) 75’ Aerial Ladder Truck from Pierce Manufacturing, Inc. through Ten 8 Fire & Safety Equipment of GA in the amount of $710,000.00

Body

ISSUE

Approval requested to purchase a new Ladder Truck for the Fire Department. This new Ladder Truck will replace an existing Ladder Truck that is out of service and not repairable.

BACKGROUND

Ladder 1, a 1996 Simon Duplex-LTI, is out of service and is not repairable. This particular truck manufacturer is no longer in business, making significant repairs costly. This request, if approved, will fund a replacement for the existing Ladder Truck. The new 75' Ariel Ladder Truck will be purchased under Bid 07-53 of the St. Johns County, Florida contract from Pierce Manufacturing, Inc through the vendor Ten 8 Fire & Safety Equipment of GA in the amount of $710,000. Initial funds for the purchase will come from the City's General Fund and then the General Fund will be reimbursed by 2016 SPLOST funds. The 2016 SPLOST funds were approved through a passing vote initiative that allocates monies for Public Safety apparatus and equipment purchases. Furthermore, since the State of Georgia does not have a standardized contract for emergency vehicles, using the St. Johns County, Florida contract enables guaranteed pricing under purchasing ordinances, rules and regulations
