Proclamation in Recognition of Campbell High School Student and Soccer Player, Emma "Joey" Martin
Body
ISSUE AND BACKGROUND:
Emma "Joey" Martin, daughter of Chuck and Jennifer Martin, started playing youth soccer in Smyrna when she was 7 years old. After playing at a high level for years, Joey was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2020. She had surgery to remove the tumor and underwent 68 weeks of chemotherapy. The one thing that kept Joey going during her recovery and rehab was her desire to play soccer again. She achieved her dream with the Campbell Spartans JV Girls team last year during their undefeated season. She was then contacted by US Paralympic Soccer to attend tryouts for their World Cup team, and after two grueling camps, Joey has been selected to represent the US in the Paralympic World Cup, May 6-17 in Barcelona!
