ISSUE:
A new collection service is needed for the City's water bills.
BACKGROUND:
Due to poor collection rates with the prior collection service, the City needs to contract for a new collection service. The Georgia Municipal Association (GMA) offers a debt collection service that focuses on the needs of local governments. GMA has a contractual relationship with the Penn Credit Corporation to provide this service. The service strictly follows all collection laws and respects the rights of the debtor as it pertains to the Fair Debt Collection Practice Act (FDCPA).
RECOMMENDATION/REQUESTED ACTION:
Authorization for the Mayor to sign all necessary documents for the Georgia Municipal Association through Penn Credit Corporation to collect on past due water bills.
