ISSUE:
Smyrna Fire Department needs to replace critical safety items that are outdated and replacement parts are not available

BACKGROUND:

In an effort to be fiscally responsible during the economic downturn, SFD did not replace older critical firefighting and personal protective equipment, but instead was able to keep equipment in service through repair kits and service. Since the above listed items are over twenty (20) years old repair kits, spare parts and other items necessary to fix broken equipment are no longer available. Staff has been working deligently to find a way to remedy this problem and provide the funds available for a solution. A source has been located wehre SCBA can be purchased at a savings of $1,500.00 - $2,000.00 per unit.
