Title
Approval to purchase a new Ford E-450 SWAT truck as part of the FY17 Vehicle Replacement Fund at a total cost of $94,328.10
Body
ISSUE: The current Ford SWAT van is a 1996 model and is to be surplused due to its age and condition. A new SWAT truck was budgeted at $95,000 and included in the FY17 Vehicle Replacement Fund.
BACKGROUND: The Police Department was authorized $95,000 in the FY17 Vehicle Replacement Fund to replace the department's current SWAT vehicle. An extensive local search was completed in an attempt to find a local vendor which could supply a suitable vehicle at a reasonable cost. Smyrna Truck stated that they could not supply us what we needed and Wade Ford could only supply the chassis; not the rear compartment. A national search of vendors was then completed and Faber Specialty Vehicles was the only vendor that could supply the specified unit under $100,000 excluding emergency equipment and striping. The vehicle is to be purchased on GSA contract which realized a cost savings of $6,750.00. The vehicle, excluding emergency equipment and striping is to be purchased from Faber Specialty Vehicles, the striping/graphix from The Grafic Shop, and the emergency equipment and installation to be purchased from Diversified Electronics in Marietta.
RECOMMENDATION/REQUESTED ACTION: The Chief of Police and Staff recommend this purchase.
