Title

Approval to modify Personnel Policy BEN 1-0 Holidays to recognize Christmas Eve as a full holiday and authorize the Mayor to sign related document

Body

ISSUE:  The City currently observes less holidays than other goverment jurisdictions in Cobb County. To remain competitive, a modification to the Personnel Policy to increase Christmas Eve to a full holiday is recommended

BACKGROUND:  Currently, the City of Smyrna is the only jurisdiction in Cobb County that does not observe at least 10 holidays. All jurisdictions, with the exception of the City of Smyrna, observe a full day for Christmas Eve. The City of Smyrna observes ½ day for this holiday.

In 2015 and 2016, the City of Smyrna’s Mayor and Council authorized the additional ½ day off for Christmas Eve. Modifying the personnel policy to officially observe Christmas Eve as a full holiday will allow us to remain competitive with surrounding jurisdictions.

RECOMMENDATION/REQUESTED ACTION:  Approval to modify Personnel Policy BEN 1-0 Holidays to recognize Christmas Eve as a full holiday and authorize the Mayor to sign related document
