ISSUE: Approval of resolution to authorize worker's compensation coverage
BACKGROUND: The Smyrna police Department wishes to start a Reserve Police Officer Program and the policy governing this activity is attached. One requirement of the policy is for worker’s compensation coverage for the reserve officers while they are performing authorized police functions for the City of Smyrna. This requires the Mayor and Council to pass a resolution authorizing worker’s compensation coverage at a rate of $50.00 per year which is prorated depending on the start date of the reserve officer. The police department does not expect to have more than 10 reserve officers at any given time; therefore the cost of the additional worker’s compensation coverage would not exceed $500.00 in a budget year.
