ISSUE:
Southern General Contracting, located at 4940 Cowan Road, Acworth, Ga. 30101 is requesting a road closure permit on Oak Drive, Smyrna, during the day from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. for construction of a new sewer service and force main located at 5220 South Cobb Drive. Public Works and City Engineer are in support of the request for road closure on Oak Drive and South Cobb Drive if the hours are amended to 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday for underground utility construction and authorize the Mayor to approve road closure permit.
BACKGROUND:
Mr. Doug Roberson with Southern General Contractors, is requesting a road closure permit on Oak Drive and South Cobb Drive (not just lane closure) during the day for construction of a sewer service and a force main within the right-of-way for construction site at 5220 South Cobb Drive/Clipper Bojangles.
Contractor requests a closure of Oak Drive during the hours of 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday for 4 weeks of underground utility construction. Contractor will utilize full time flaggers, signage during construction and planning to install reader boards at each intersection 1 week prior to the work to notify the public.
City Engineer, Eric Randall supports this road close only if hours of construction are amended to 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
RECOMMENDATION/REQUESTED ACTION:
Public Works and City Engineer are in support of the request for road closure on Oak Drive and South Cobb Drive if the hours are amended to 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday for underground utility construction and authorize the Mayor to approve road closure permit.
