ISSUE: The Smyrna Police Department is in the application process for the approval of a Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency Grant in the amount of $287,150.00 for the purchase of a Lenco Bearcat Armored Vehicle. A requirement of the grant is that it is open to the public comment and approved by the governing body.
BACKGROUND: The Smyrna Police Department is applying for the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency Grant in the amount of $287,150.00 for the purchase of a Lenco Bearcat Armored Vehicle. The Police Department is applying for the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency Grant in the amount of $287,150.00 for the purchase of a Lenco Bearcat Armored Vehicle. This vehicle will be used by the SWAT team in responding to all incidents that exceed the capability of patrol within our jurisdiction, including hostage situations, active shooters and barricaded gunmen. This vehicle is a Medevac Emergency Rescue and Response Vehicle and Advanced Life Support features. A requirement of the grant is that it is open to the public comment and approved by the governing body.
RECOMMENDATION/REQUESTED ACTION: Staff recommends Mayor and Council to approve the Memorandum of Understanding in filing for the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency Grant in the amount of $287,150.00 for the purchase of a Lenco Bearcat Armored Vehicle.
