Title

Approval to allow road closures for the Smyrna Village 10K road race on November 16, 2019 from 7:45 - 10:00 AM. Road closures include the barricaded areas on each of the following roads: Powder Springs St, Village Green Cir, W Spring St, King St and Memorial Pl.

ISSUE:  November 16, 2019, the 10K run will begin and end at Village Green Cir, continuing on Atlanta Rd to the turnaround point just before Cumberland Pkwy, and return on Atlanta Rd to Village Green Cir.

 

The entire length of the course will be coned and monitored. Atlanta Rd south bound traffic will be diverted to the inside lane of Atlanta Rd north bound. Atlanta Rd north bound lanes will be the outside lane and south bound will flow on the inside north bound that is the lane closest to the median. Runners will access all south bound lanes from Powder Springs St to Ridge Road. Road closures include Powder Springs St, Village Green Cir, W Spring St, King St and Memorial Pl.

 

Officers will direct traffic at seventeen Atlanta Rd intersections with Powder Springs St., Village Green Cir, Market Village, Church St, Concord Rd, Collier, Brawner Hall and Brawner Park entrances, Millwood trail, Creatwood trail, New Haven Ct, Villa Ct, Vintage Cir, Campbell Rd, Rondak Cir, Belridge Dr, and Ridge Rd. 

 

Assembling location will be at the Village Green near the Community Center and Library at 5:00 AM, the event beginning time will be at 7:45 AM and the ending will be approximately 10:00 AM.

 

BACKGROUND:  The racing event organizer has gone through the City’s new racing event permit application process and received the requisite approval from city staff, including the Police Department, Fire Department, Community Relations, and City Administration.

 

RECOMMENDATION/REQUESTED ACTION:  Staff recommends approval.
