Ceremony and Presentation for Smyrna Citizens Academy Graduating Class.
BACKGROUND:
The City of Smyrna held its second Smyrna Citizens Academy in the Spring of 2019. The Smyrna Citizens Academy provides residents an opportunity to become civically engaged by building positive relationships with city government officials while furthering their education on the city’s daily processes. Through the academy, citizens got a behind-the-scenes look at city operations through an 8-week course on city departments including City Council and Administration, Parks and Recreation, Public Works, and more.
There are 21 participants graduating from this year's cohort. Participants heard from department heads on their department’s roles and learned about the city through interactive and hands-on activities. With a better understanding of City of Smyrna operations, participants can become greater advocates for the community in which they live, work, and play.
