Approve the closing of the following streets for the Smyrna Parks and Recreation’s Casper’s Fall Carnival and Movie and the Smyrna United Task Force Event: King Street from Village Green Circle to Bank St., and entire Village Green Circle from Atlanta Rd. from 4:00 PM. - 10:00 PM on Friday, October 11, 2019.

ISSUE: Requested street closings are to ensure a safe environment for this Smyrna Parks and Recreation youth-focused event. Games will be set up in the fountain area in front of the community center; a hay ride around the Village Green traffic circle; inflatables set up in the grassy area along Atlanta Rd and Village Green Circle along with food vendors set up on King Street (across from Veterans memorial lawn). A movie will be shown on the grassy area in front of the Veterans memorial.
In cooperation with the Parks and Recreation Department, Smyrna Vision community group Smyrna United is an organizing a collaborative event to take place at the Veterans Memorial Plaza. The Smyrna United event is funded through the Municipal Alliance Fund which funds Smyrna Vision community initiatives.
The road closure includes Village Circle up to Atlanta Road, and King St. from Village Circle to Bank St.
The event begins after 5 PM. Closures begin at 4 PM to allow set up for the event.
BACKGROUND: This is an annual event put on by the Smyrna Parks and Recreation Department.
Smyrna United is organizing a cultural event as part of Hispanic Heritage Month to celebrate the diversity of the community and encourage increased attendance at the Casper Fall Carnival. Smyrna Counts will also be present with information about the Census 2020.
RECOMMENDATION/REQUESTED ACTION: Staff recommends approval of the road closures for this event.
