ISSUE: The vehicle will be a dedicated for use on Crime Scene Investigations and the transport of evidence to and from the State Crime Lab.
BACKGROUND: The Police Department is requesting approval to spent $24,307.29 of asset forfeiture funds to purchase a 2019 Ford Transit Connect Cargo Van. The police department has identified the need for a dedicated Crime Scene Investigation vehicle. Two years ago, the police department began a process to improve on the means of collecting, processing, storing, and purging evidence. We now have a state-of-the-art tracking system and the entire operation is organized in a very professional manner and the vehicle will be clearly marked with the Police Department logo and "CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATIONS" will be posted on each side. The vehicle will be purchased from Wade Ford 3860 S Cobb Dr. Smyrna, Ga. 30080.
RECOMMENDATION/REQUESTED ACTION: Staff recommends purchase of the 2019 Ford Transit Van using asset forfeiture funds for the use on Crime Scene Investigations.
