Appointment and swearing in of Keith Zgonc as the City of Smyrna Chief of Police as a result of Chief Joseph Bennett's appointment to the position of Smyrna's City Administrator.

ISSUE AND BACKGROUND

In February 2020, Deputy Police Chief Joseph Bennett was appointed and sworn in as Police Chief for the City. In October 2021, Chief Bennett was asked to serve as the Interim City Administrator after the resignation of Tammi Saddler Jones and after six months of service in this capacity, he was appointed and sworn in as the permanent City Administrator, leaving a vacancy in the Police Chief position. Chief Zgonc has previously served as Deputy Police Chief for the City of Sandy Springs and has completed a lengthy and thorough application, interview and background process. The Mayor and City Council recommend him for the permanent position of Smyrna Chief of Police.

 

RECOMMENDATION / REQUESTED ACTION:  Mayor and Council recommend the appointment and swearing in of Keith Zgonc as the City of Smyrna Chief of Police.
